In this release, I have again focused on improving reliability and compatibility, plus a few minor improvements.

  • Added: Improved link detection. PopClip now detects links in text without an http:// or https:// prefix for all the newer top-level domains, e.g. .shop, .news, .coffee.
  • Added: In Arc browser, extensions now get the page URL and title.
  • Added: Basic support for Waterfox browser.
  • Changed: The menu bar icon is a little bit smaller.
  • Changed: The minimum system requirement is now macOS 10.15 Catalina.
  • Fixed: Appears more consistently when selecting text in particular apps, including Obsidian, VS Code, Notion, Ulysses and others.
  • Fixed: Various bug fixes. Gotta squash ‘em all.

  • Changed: PopClip has a new application icon and a reshaped menu bar icon to match it.
  • Added: Improved support for the following browsers: Arc, Orion, Tor Browser, Mullvad, DEVONagent Pro.
  • Fixed: PopClip can now detect that the selection is read-only in Google Chrome.
  • Fixed: Added a work-around for a Chromium bug that could cause PopClip to not see the newlines in the text selection. This should improve some things in Google Chrome, Chromium-based browsers, and Electron apps such as Obsidian.
  • Fixed: Certain Iconify icons which appeared glitched now display correctly.
  • Fixed: PDF Expert compatibility (once again).
  • Localization: Added full Turkish and Slovak translations, thanks to volunteer translators.

This release focuses on fixes and improvements to your PopClip experience. It also adds capabilites that will allow new kinds of extensions in future.

  • Fixed bug where using the Select All extension could result in an endless spinner.
  • Fixed bug where PopClip might fail to pop up if you had set custom mouse pointer colors (in Accessibility preferences).
  • VoiceOver will now describe PopClip as “PopClip” instead of just “system dialog”.
  • PopClip can now appear for very large selections - up to 10 million characters. (Now you can Word Count the complete Shakespeare.)
  • Recognises the new DuckDuckGo browser for performing web searches.
  • Compatibility with PDF Expert 3.
  • Allows Formatting extension to work in Visual Studio Code.
  • Plus other small fixes. Thank you all for reporting things!

  • You can now set a system-wide keyboard shortcut to trigger PopClip to appear.
  • Option to automatically set the dark/light appearance of the PopClip bar to match the system.
  • Made the “small” popup size a little more compact.
  • Improved compatibility with Electron-based apps such as Discord and VS Code.
  • And bug fixes, of course.

If PopClip releases had code-names, this one would be called “Iceberg” because there’s not much to see on the surface, but there’s a lot going on underneath. This release also includes big improvements to the system for creating your own extensions, including running Shortcuts on macOS Monterey.   • Ready for OS X Yosemite. PopClip is ready for the next version of OS X. Thanks to the beta testers who have been sending feedback.
  • PopClip works faster and more reliably, especially when selecting large amounts of text. Now it should easily cope with 10,000 characters or more, where it often used to fail.
  • Fixed (finally!) the bug where pressing ⌘C at the same time as selecting text with PopClip could cause the wrong thing to get copied.
  • Fixed not appearing when selecting italic text in Word.
  • Fixed dictionary action not appearing when selecting the first word of a bulleted paragraph in Word.
  • Fixed PopClip prefs menu not closing when clicking outside the window.
  • The Paste and Match Style and formatting extensions will now work in browsers (for Google Docs, Gmail etc.)
